Welcome to the website of the Bordetella research network RENOBORD (Research Network on Bordetella).
Whooping cough is a highly contagious infection of the respiratory tract caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. In addition to the classic whooping cough pathogen B. pertussis, a clinical picture similar to whooping cough can also be caused by other species of the Bordetella genus.
The Bordetella research network has set itself the task of gaining a better understanding of the molecular epidemiology of these pathogens by establishing comprehensive genomic surveillance of Bordetella spp.. In close collaboration with diagnostic laboratories, clinics, outpatient facilities and the public health system, we aim to link pathogen characteristics with clinical and vaccination data. Our aim is to generate findings that support the possible optimisation of existing vaccination strategies on the one hand and the development of new approaches for the prevention and control of whooping cough on the other.
The RENOBORD team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
